Come and meet us at the Barre! We offer a range of exercise classes incorporating the ballet barre and these are for adults whatever your age.
These classes maintain the principles of Pilates using breath and flowing movement to create elegant poise and wonderful posture. They increase your flexibility and muscle strength. They gently increase your stamina and energy levels.
Regular exercise classes have been shown to have a positive effect on cognitive ability and as these classes work on your coordination and concentration they do just that.
They importantly improve balance and good balance is a direct result of core strength which these classes help you to develop. Good balance is also the result of strong muscles all over your body which significantly reduces your chances of falling.
It is proven that ballet classes increase the release of endorphins ‘our happy chemicals’ which we all want and reduce our cortisol levels ‘our stress chemicals’ which we don’t. There are even more significant benefits. In older age, doing one of these classes could delay the onset of osteoporosis and dementia. Many different studies show that regular weight bearing exercise classes which increase bone density and movement classes such as ballet can help prevent cognitive decline and reduce the risk of developing either of these conditions.

FAST-PACED
These classes are a fast-paced fusion of ballet, Pilates and sculpting exercises at the barre which give you a lean and chiselled body quickly. The class combines the principles and safety of Pilates with functional standing ballet movements.
FOR ANYONE
Barre classes can make a great addition to your existing Pilates programme. If you want stronger abs and back muscles, improved endurance, increased flexibility, improved posture, toned arms and legs and a lifted bottom then these classes are definitely for you.

These classes maintain the Pilates principles of breath, balance and flowing movement to create elegant poise and wonderful posture. Age is no barrier. In fact, one of these classes has been specifically designed for people over 55 but if you're younger there is something for you too.
Everybody can do Pilates and everyone can enjoy the gentle flow of ballet so why not do something that puts these two forms of exercise together? You will feel healthier in your body and healthier in your mind and have great fun in the process!

SILVER SWANS® BALLET CLASSES
Additional amazing facts! Because these classes are weight bearing, you will be actively helping to delay the onset of osteoporosis. And because ballet strengthens your muscles, your bones will become well supported by them significantly reducing your chance of falling. Should you still fall it can significantly reduce the severity of your injuries. Finally, studies show that if you take part in a regular exercise class you can actively help to reduce cognitive decline and your risk of developing dementia.
Whatever your age come along and give Silver Swans® a go. Silver hair such as the name of this class suggests is by no means compulsory! You don’t need ballet shoes for your first session and your teacher can advise on footwear for future classes.
ADULT BALLET CLASSES
A basic knowledge of classical ballet is recommended for our all age adult ballet classes. The exercises follow a traditional ballet routine including Pilates principles of flowing movement, concentration and breath. The classes also focus on enhancing balance, muscle stretching and strengthening. Most of the session takes place at the ballet barre. For those who wish to avoid jumping or turning, variations in the class programme will be provided for you. These classes are a fantastic complement to your existing Pilates programme.
